The Importance of Attendance in School
According to a report from Johns Hopkins University, “Students need to attend school daily to succeed. The good news of this report is that being in school leads to succeeding in school. . . . and absence of even two weeks during one school year matters. Attendance also strongly affects . . . graduation and dropout rates.”  For more information, go to https://ct.global.ssl.fastly.net/media/W1siZiIsIjIwMTQvMDgvMTUvMjE1dnkya3BzOF9GSU5BTENocm9uaWNBYnNlbnRlZWlzbVJlcG9ydF9NYXkxNi5wZGYiXV0/FINALChronicAbsenteeismReport_May16.pdf.pdf?sha=ffcb3d2b

Teens & Sleep
According to an article in the Connecting Lewis County newsletter, “Inadequate sleep can affect your teen’s mood, health and safety.  Research has linked poor sleep habits to increased rates of depression and attention deficit disorder.  Lack of sleep may change teens’ metabolism, putting them at increased risk for obesity.  Recent research links a lack of sleep with poor school performance.”  Some ideas to help your teen get enough sleep include: don’t drink caffeinated beverages after lunch, establish a routine that allows 8.5-9.5 hours of sleep per night, encourage your son/daughter to exercise.  For the entire article go to http://blogs.cornell.edu/ccelewis/files/2013/07/clc-November-December-2014-28i1kl1.pdf

Welcome to Eschool Data Parent Portal

As we welcome you to the “Nexgen Parent Portal” provided by E-School Data, we would like to call your attention to several important details.

The “Nexgen Parent Portal” is in its initial offering to schools in New York State this year. E-School Data continues to develop and improve their product every day based on feedback they receive from schools and parents. Coupled with this is the fact that the relationship between CCS and E-School Data is in its infancy. So we have a school that is new to a product paired with a company that is new to providing the service. As such, we are still learning each other’s needs and shortcomings. An advantage to this relationship is that, as E-School Data creates their product, they are extremely responsive to our personal requests.

Because of this, we would like to make sure you realize that as you use the Portal over the remainder of the year, things will change. You may see certain data tomorrow that was not available today. You may wish you could access certain things that are not yet available. Certain features may not be functional now that will be later. We are asking for your patience and understanding as we work through our “growing pains” together, with the knowledge that we will all see improvement as the year unfolds.

Thank you,

Nadine O'Shaughnessy
K-12 Principal
